Businesses Not Choosing eCommerce

Despite eight out of 10 Canadians purchasing online for the first time during the pandemic and planning to continue spending online post-pandemic, only 46 per cent of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SME) plan to sell online post COVID-19, says a study by Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC). "We know that businesses already selling online have fared better during the crisis than others. eCommerce is bringing opportunities for companies of every size and sector,” says Pierre Cléroux, vice-president at BDC. The study says that eCommerce was booming pre-pandemic and continues to gain popularity. Online sales are estimated to reach $39 trillion by 2023.
