Canac Target Of Cyber Attack

Quebec-based hardware chain Canac was the target of a cyber attack, causing computer failures for nearly two weeks, says a report from CBC Radio-Canada. The attack took place April 9 and the retailer says that the current investigation into the attack suggests that no sensitive data was compromised. The retailer’s centralized customer service system was isolated and unusable for more than a week. Circulars and inventories were also withdrawn, as updates were not possible. It shut down eCommerce sales operations and called in a specialized firm to investigate the incident. While it appears that no customer data was stolen, the attack did cause significant inconvenience and costs to deal with the ramifications. However, the attack was contained and had little impact on operations overall.
