Walmart U.S. To Remove Pick Up Towers

On the heels of a move away from the use of mobile robots in store aisles to keep track of inventory, Walmart is now removing automated pick-up towers from most of its U.S. stores, says the Wall Street Journal. The towers were installed in more than 1,500 stores and available to customers to pick up eCommerce orders. With the change in consumer habits from the pandemic, the retailer will change to curbside pick up outside of the store, which customers now prefer. The retailer plans to remove 300 towers and store another 1,300.
