Ransomware Evolves To Target Supply Chain

Ransomware is gradually becoming more refined and targeting supply chains, says Colin Henderson, vice-president of security for One Trust, at its ‘Supply Chain Attacks: The Rise of Ransomware and How to Reduce Your Risk’ webinar. However, it’s not necessarily something new. Attackers have evolved and become more refined by scaling through the supply chain and attacking higher-profile victims. Henderson said they’ve been able to do so by targeting a specific sector of the chain and utilizing the sector to spread ransomware throughout the rest of it. The best prevention against attacks is to “maintain good hygiene,” he said. Therefore, they need to stay up to date with security measures needed for critical software, test software source codes, and keep tabs on where vendors can potentially have opportunities to respond to ransomware unknowingly.
