Government Makes Changes To Pandemic Programs

The federal government will not extend two key pandemic programs, the Canada Recovery Benefit and the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy, past October 23, 2021, says a Hicks Morley ‘FTR Now.’ The government has proposed extending the Canada Recovery Hiring Program – with narrowed criteria – to May 7, 2022. It also plans to introduce two new programs – the Tourism and Hospitality Recovery Program and the Hardest-Hit Business Recovery Program – that would provide rent and wage subsidies, as well as lockdown support for a targeted set of businesses and organizations, until May 7, with the possibility of extension until July 2, 2022. In addition, the government announced that it intends to introduce legislation to establish new income support for individuals called the Canada Worker Lockdown Benefit. This benefit would be available to individuals unable to work as a result of a government-imposed lockdown. For information on these support measures, visit FTR Now
