Orgill Hits One-Million Item Milestone

During the fourth quarter of 2021, Orgill reached a milestone in its efforts to help independent retailers enhance their eCommerce capabilities as the number of individual items within its shareable product information database grew to more than one million. To make this amount of data easily accessible to retailers who subscribe to the service, Orgill houses the information in what is called a Product Information Management (PIM) system. Referred to as the ‘Orgill Industry PIM,’ this software makes it easy for users to find and access the information they need. The PIM is a database of enriched product data that retail customers can use to populate their eCommerce websites, point-of-sale (POS) systems, or in a variety of other functions. But what truly makes Orgill’s PIM unique is the products it contains go beyond what Orgill stocks in its warehouses, says Marc Hamer, Orgill’s executive vice-president, chief information and technology officer. The enriched data includes most everything a retailer would need to populate an eCommerce website such as high-quality images, long (text) descriptions, specifications, filterable attributes, and links to supporting documents. In all, the database has product data, images, and information across four different types of items: warehouse products, dropship products, products not sold through Orgill, and commodity wood products. Of the more than one million items in the database, only about 12 per cent are items stocked in Orgill’s warehouse.
