Retail Sales See Increase In October


Retail sales reached $59 billion in October, an increase of 3.6 per cent year-over-year, says Statistics Canada. The largest increase came from sales of automotive and household fuels, which rose 40.6 per cent compared with the same month in 2020, marking the eighth consecutive sales increase for this sector. Furthermore, sales of motor vehicles fell one per cent in October. However, sales of used motor vehicles (up 15.4 per cent) continued to rise. Retail sales of clothing (up 14.7 per cent) remained strong in October as did sporting and leisure products class (up 6.2 per cent), with sporting equipment (up 4.5 per cent) and toys and games (up 12 per cent).
