FCL Signs Plastics Pact

Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL), on behalf of 160 local Co-ops across western Canada, has signed the Canada Plastics Pact (CPP), is committing to reducing problematic plastics throughout its supply chain. The CPP focuses on bringing businesses, government, and other key players together to create a circular economy for plastics in which plastic stays in the economy and out of the environment. The CPP has set clear, actionable targets for 2025 which include taking measures to eliminate problematic or unnecessary plastic packaging; design plastic packaging to be reusable, recyclable, or compostable; and ensuring most plastic packaging is effectively recycled or composted. While much progress has been made to reduce plastic use at Co-op, efforts will continue as more work is needed. Customers can continue to expect changes to instore packaging as the organization works to address these challenges and build towards sustainable communities.
