Cleanup Begins At Tolko Alberta Mill

Forest products company Tolko Industries has started cleaning up its High Prairie, AB, division after an early morning fire broke out in the press area of the facility on May 20. Alberta Occupational Health and Safety has approved a phased approach to accessing the site and tradespeople have been allowed onsite to start restoring power to areas that are unrestricted. On May 30, operations teams started clean-up in unrestricted areas. The company says damage and repair options are being evaluated and it is anticipated to take several weeks to determine the detailed repair plans and the timing for a restart. During the downtime, the mill will be shipping out existing products and will re-direct incoming logs from High Prairie to its Athabasca division near Slave Lake, AB.
