Window, Door Shipments Rise Despite Problems

U.S. residential window and door shipments increased in 2021 despite supply chain issues and labour shortages, with residential unit shipments (windows, patio, and entry doors) up 3.8 per cent or 2.5 million units from 2020, says the Window & Door Manufacturers Association. Key drivers remain positive for the future but will plateau in the second half of 2022, says its report. Housing affordability, although the lowest in the past decade, remains above historical norms and is expected to drive more large-scale remodeling. For 2023 and 2024, concerns arise around consumer and builder confidence. As the U.S. Federal Reserve tackles inflation, interest rates could affect spending on new homes and large remodels.
