Federal government allocates $13 million to build and repair 274 homes

The federal government has allocated over $13 million through the Affordable Housing Fund to enhance housing accessibility across various communities. The funding will support the construction and refurbishment of 274 affordable homes in Yukon. Brendan Hanley, Member of Parliament for Yukon, unveiled the initiative on behalf of Minister Sean Fraser, alongside Barb Joe, chief of Champagne and Aishihik First Nations.

 

Key allocations include $1.6 million for renovating 108 units for Champagne and Aishihik First Nations members in Haines Junction. Additionally, $8.9 million will finance 13 new single-family homes and repairs for eight homes for Little Salmon Carmacks First Nation. Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in First Nation will receive $2.1 million for repairing 141 homes, while $548,400 supports the renovation of four apartments and beds in Watson Lake, for women and children escaping violence.
