Toronto to welcome new affordable housing for deafblind community

The Canadian Helen Keller Centre (CHKC) has announced the construction of a new 56-unit apartment complex in Toronto’s Etobicoke-Lakeshore neighborhood. This project will provide affordable housing for people who are deafblind or have other physical disabilities.

The complex, funded in part by the Rapid Housing Initiative, will feature one-, two-, and three-bedroom units, along with shared amenities like a rooftop garden. In addition, the building will include a state-of-the-art training facility where residents can learn essential life skills.

“Our government is pleased to work with our partners to help bring this project to life and, most importantly, support those in greatest housing need,” said James Maloney, Member of Parliament for Etobicoke-Lakeshore.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on November 18th, with representatives from CHKC, the City of Toronto, and the federal government in attendance. The project is scheduled for completion in July 2025.
